Hierarchy of the Home

INTRODUCTION: Every organization has to have a chain of command to function, and the
home is no exception.

I. GOD - 1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ,
the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.

II. Fathers/Husbands
     A. Ephesians 5:23-25 - For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head
of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also
wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church
     B. Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in
the discipline and instruction of the Lord. 
     C. 1 Peter 3:7 - Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor
to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your
prayers may not be hindered. 

III. Mothers/Wives
     A. Proverbs 30:17 - The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be
picked out by the ravens of the valley and, eaten by the vultures.
     B. Ephesians 5:22-23 - Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the
husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church
          C. 1 Peter 3:1-6 - Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even
if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives- 2
when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3  Do not let your adorning be external-the
braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing- 4 but let your adorning be the
hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in
God's sight is very precious. 5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn
themselves, by submitting to their husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And
you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.

IV. Children
     A. Proverbs 22:15 - Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
But the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
     B. Ephesians 6:1-2 - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor
your father and mother"
