COMMENT - No matter what the situation in life there is always something for which we can be thankful. While we may not always see the blessings in our current situation, we have to believe that it is God's will for us to be thankful and look for the good that can come from every situation. Not every situation is good, but good can result. SONG - STRENGTH THROUGH ADVERSITY copyright 1976 by Barry and Paul Epps. Author of stanzas 1&2 unknown, 3 by Paul Epps in Church Gospel Songs and Hymns For all the heartaches and the tears, For all the anguish and the pain; For gloomy days and fruitless years, And for the hopes I've lived in vain. For ev'ry hill I've had to climb, For ev'ry stone that bruised my feet; For all the blood and sweat and grime, For blinding storms and burning heat. I thank Thee, Lord, for all the years, For ev'ry burden of the day; For all the heartaches and the fears, That I have known along the way. Chorus: My heart sings a grateful song, These were the things that made me strong; I do give thanks, for now I know, These were the things that made me grow. Do You Want to Please Him? THOUGHTS He who is thankful for a little, enjoys much; but he who is thankful for little, enjoys little. OOOOO If you can't be content with what you have received, be thankful for what you have escaped. OOOOO Bible commentator Matthew Henry, after being robbed, wrote in his diary the following: "let me be thankful. First because I was never robbed before. Second, because although they took my wallet, they did not take my life. Third, because although they took my all, it was not much. Fourth, because it was I who was robbed and not I who robbed. OOOOO When will we stop looking at the glass as half-empty or half-full, and realize that it is all full. OOOOO There was a preacher who was well-known for praying when he got up to preach and always having something to thank God for regardless of the circumstances. One terribly stormy Sunday morning a member of the congregation was sure the preacher would have nothing to be thankful for on such a wretched day, but was disappointed. The preacher got up and began his prayer, "We thank Thee, O God, that it is not always like this." OOOOO The attitude of gratitude will lift you from a flat latitude to a soaring altitude. OOOOO O Thou whose bounty fills my cup, With every blessing meet! I give Thee thanks for every drop - The bitter and the sweet. I praise Thee for the desert road, And for the riverside; For all Thy goodness hath bestowed, And all Thy grace denied. I thank Thee for both smile and frown, And for the gain and loss; I praise Thee for the future crown And for the present cross. I thank Thee for both wings of love Which stirred my worldly nest; And for the stormy clouds which drove Me, trembling, to Thy breast. I bless Thee for the glad increase, And for the waning joy; And for this strange, this unsettled peace Which nothing can destroy.
