THE TEN BIGGEST LIES ABOUT THE BIBLE (PART 2) INTRODUCTION: A. GOD'S WORD HAS BEEN ATTACKED WITH LIES SINCE BEFORE IT WAS EVEN WRITTEN DOWN. B. (Rom 3:3-4 KJV) "For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? {4} God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged." 5) THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS ADDED TO THE OLD. A. (Heb 8:7-9 KJV) "For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. {8} For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: {9} Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord." (Heb 8:13 KJV) "In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away." B. (Gal 3:19-25 KJV) "Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. {20} Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. {21} Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. {22} But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. {23} But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. {24} Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. {25} But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster." C. Ephes. 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; D. Col. 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; E. Romans 7:6-7 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. [7] What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. F. (Rom 3:27-28 KJV) "Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. {28} Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." G. (Gal 2:16-19 KJV) "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. {17} But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. {18} For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. {19} For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God." H. (Gal 3:7-11 KJV) "Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. {8} And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. {9} So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. {10} For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. {11} But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith." 4) IT IS FULL OF ERRORS. A. Psalms 19:7-8 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. {8} The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. B. Every accusation has been refuted. 1. Some things considered to be errors are simply examples of common expressions. I.e. - four corners of the Earth, the Sun rose, etc. 2. Other things that are considered errors or contradictions are simply a lack of understanding on the part of the reader. 3. Some supposed errors are mistakes in translations that man has made not in God's Word. 4. In fact there has never been one proven contradiction in the Bible. 5. Some things considered to be errors have often been discovered to be facts with further examination. 3) THE BIBLE CONTAINS THE WORD OF GOD. - This indicates that there are some things that are not the Word of God, and the possibility that some of God's Word is somewhere other than the Bible. A. THE BIBLE IS GOD'S WORD B. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: {17} That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. C. 2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. {21} For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2) IT IS LIKE OTHER RELIGIOUS BOOKS. A. Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. B. This claim is made by those who have never truly compared the Bible with other religious books. C. A few similarities does not make two things the same. D. Is a cow a pig because they have some similarities? E. The differences are what makes the Bible unique. 1) MAN WROTE THE BIBLE. A. 1 Corinthians 14:36-37 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? {37} If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. B. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. C. It is true that God used men as His secretaries to pen the words. D. It is not true that man is the Author of those words. E. If a lawyer dictates a letter to the secretary, is the letter from the secretary or the lawyer. 258 times the Bible says Word of the Lord. F. Man could not have known many of the things that are accurately recorded in the Bible. CONCLUSION: A. REVIEW B. APPEAL THE TEN BIGGEST LIES ABOUT THE BIBLE (PART 2) INTRODUCTION: A.
