YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY To be almost saved is to be totally lost. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY If you are saved, then you are doing better than you deserve. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY We spend more time in our churches today praying to keep sick saints out of heaven than we do to keep the lost sinners out of hell. - Leon Vorpahl ASSIGNMENTS 1. Once a day read over this material and read or sing the song. 2. Keep the scripture where you will see it often each day. 3. Each day examine yourself to see if you are right with God. 4. At the end of day write about something that you did to keep yourself close to God. 5. Plan to tell the class of a time when you were confident of your salvation, or tell of a time when you have doubted your salvation, or a time you have been out of fellowship with Him and have regained it. SPIRITUAL HEALTH REGIMEN - WEEK 34 SALVATION - 3-10-13 to 3-16-13 SCRIPTURE - Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. COMMENT – God calls on us to save ourselves and as many others as will listen. Despite God's desire that no one should perish, there are many who will. In fact, Jesus says that more will be lost than saved. We need to do whatever possible to make sure that as many as possible are saved, and that we are among them. SONG - THERE'S A GREAT DAY COMING 1. There's a great day coming, a great day coming, There's a great day coming by and by, When the saints and the sinners shall be parted, right and left, 2. There's a bright day coming, a bright day coming, There's a bright day coming by and by, But its brightness shall only come to them that love the Lord, 3. There's a sad day coming, a sad day coming, There's a sad day coming by and by, When the sinner shall hear his doom, "Depart, I know you not," CHORUS: Are you ready that day to come? Are you ready, are you ready? Are you ready for the judgement day? Are you ready, are you ready for the judgment day? THOUGHTS Back in 1830 George Wilson was convicted of robbing the U.S. Mail and was sentenced to be hanged. President Andrew Jackson issued a pardon for Wilson, but he refused to accept it. The matter went to Chief Justice Marshall, who concluded that Wilson would have to be executed. "A pardon is a slip of paper," wrote Marshall, "the value of which is determined by the acceptance of the person to be pardoned. If it is refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must be hanged."For some, the pardon comes too late. For others, the pardon is not accepted. - Prokope, V. 11, #5. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY A man who feels repentance on a Sunday for what he did on Saturday and is going to do again on Monday is not a Christian . YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Graffiti from the 1800s discovered by workers renovating the Washington Monument has quite a different tone from that usually found today on the sides of buildings and subway cars: "Whoever is the human instrument under God in the conversion of one soul, erects a monument to his own memory more lofty and enduing (sic) than this," reads the inscription which can now be viewed by visitors to the monument. It is signed BFB. No one knows who that is, or who left the small drawings and 19th century dates on other walls. - Spokesman-Review, June, 1994. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Lord Kenneth Clark, internationally know for his television series Civilization, lived and died without faith in Jesus Christ. He admitted in his autobiography that while visiting a beautiful church he had what he believed to be an overwhelming religious experience. But the idea of becoming a Christian created a problem. If he allowed himself to be influenced, he knew he would have to change, his family might think he had lost his mind, and maybe that intense joy would prove to be an illusion. So he concluded, "I was too deeply embedded in the world to change course." - Our Daily Bread, February 15, 1994. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY A marshal in Napoleon's army -- a man who was devotedly and enthusiastically attached to him -- was mortally wounded in battle. As the last struggle drew near and he lay dying in his tent, he sent for his chief. Napoleon came. The poor man thought his emperor could do anything. Perhaps he even sought to put him in the place of God. So he earnestly pleaded with his leader to save his life. The emperor sadly shook his head and turned away. But as the dying man felt the cold, merciless hand of death drawing him irresistibly behind the curtain of the unseen world, he was still heard to shriek out, "Save me, Napoleon! Save me!" In the hour of death, that soldier discovered that even the powerful Napoleon could not give him physical life. - Our Daily Bread. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY "If you get gloomy, just take an hour off and sit and think how much better this world is than hell. Of course, it won't cheer you up if you expect to go there." - Don Maguire YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY When the author walks onto the stage, the play is over. God is going to invade, all right; but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else comes crashing in? This time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side. That will not be the time for choosing; It will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realized it before or not. Now, today, this moment, is our chance to choose the right side. - C.S. Lewis. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHY MANY PEOPLE ARE __________? #189 - THE GOSPEL IS FOR ALL - V. 1&3 PRAYER INTRODUCTION L. MATTHEW 7:13-14 (Matthew 7:13-14) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: {14} Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. B. WHY DO SO MANY GO THE BROAD WAY? L. S. SOME ARE LOST BECAUSE THEY . . . SONG #226 - THERE'S A GREAT DAY COMING - V. 1&3 I. DON'T REALIZE THEY ARE LOST. A. NEVER HEARD - 2 TIMOTHY 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. B. BELIEVE THEY ARE SAVED - MATTHEW 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. {22} Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? {23} And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. SONG #561 - YOU NEVER MENTIONED HIM TO ME - V. 1&3 II. DON'T BELIEVE IN . . . A. GOD - PSALM 14:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. B. JESUS - JOHN 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. C. HELL - MATTHEW 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. SONG #138 - MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS - V. 1&4 III. DON'T LOVE THE RIGHT THINGS. A. TRUTH - 2 THESSALONIANS 2:7-12 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. {8} And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: {9} Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, {10} And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. {11} And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: {12} That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. B. FIRST LOVE - REVELATION 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. C. BRETHREN - 1 JOHN 3:14-15 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. {15} Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. SONG #265 - WHEN MY LOVE FOR CHRIST GROWS WEAK - V. 1-3 LORD'S SUPPER IV. LOVE THE WRONG THINGS. A. SIN - JOHN 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. B. PRAISE OF MEN - JOHN 12:42-43 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: {43} For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. C. WORLD - 1 JOHN 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. {16} For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. {17} And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. D. SELF - 2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. {2} For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, {3} Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, {4} Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; {5} Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. E. MONEY - 1 TIMOTHY 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. COLLECTION SONG #72 - HIGHER GROUND - V. 1-4 V. TRUST THEIR OWN GOOD WORKS. A. CORNELIUS - ACTS 10:1-2 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, {2} A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. Acts 11:14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. B. PHARISEES - LUKE 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: SONG - #275 - NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD - V. 1-3 VI. TRUST ONLY GRACE OR FAITH. A. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. JAMES 2:24-26 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. {25} Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? {26} For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. SONG - #214 - TRUST AND OBEY - V. 1&5 VII. ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH CHRIST AND HIS CHURCH A. TOO DIFFICULT - MATTHEW 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. B. HYPOCRITES IN THE CHURCH - MATTHEW 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. C. PROBLEMS IN THE CHURCH - JAMES 3:14-16 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. {15} This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. {16} For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
