O n O n O n O n O n In survey after survey, people report that the greatest dangers they face are, in this order: terrorist attack, plane crashes and nuclear accidents. This despite the fact that these three combined have killed fewer people in the past half-century than car accidents do in any given year. - Will Self (That may be true in the physical world, but in the spiritual world terrorists destroy eternal life and many souls.) SPIRITUAL HEALTH REGIMEN - WEEK 86 TERRORISM - 3-30-14 TO 4-5-14 SCRIPTURE - James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. COMMENT - We have to be on one side or the other. We cannot be friends with both the world and God. The worst thing we could do would be to appear to be with God's side while secretly being on the world's side. That is what a terrorist might do. SONG - WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH JESUS? 1) Jesus is standing in Pilate's hall, Friendless, forsaken, betrayed by all; Hearken! What meaneth the sudden call! What will you do with Jesus? Chorus: What will you do with Jesus, my friend? Neutral you cannot be: Someday your heart will be asking, oh friend, "What will He do with me?" 2) Jesus is standing on trial still, You can be false to Him if you will; You can be faithful thru good or ill; What will you do with Jesus? 3) Will you evade Him as Pilate tried, Or will you choose Him, whate'er betide? Vainly you struggle from Him to hide, What will you do with Jesus? 4) Will you, like Peter, your Lord deny? Or will you scorn from His foes to fly, Daring for Jesus to live or die? What will you do with Jesus? 5) "Jesus, I give Thee my heart today! Jesus, I'll follow Thee all the way, Gladly obeying Thee!" will you say; "This will I do with Jesus." THOUGHTS YOU MIGHT BE A SPIRITUAL TERRORIST IF . . . *You spend $100 a month on cable, but don't have a Bible because they cost too much. * You spend $200 a week on food, but don't want to pay for a Bible study book that lasts 13 weeks because $10 is just way too much. * You spend more time picking out what you are going to wear to church than you did looking at your lesson. * You spent more on gas to get to worship than you put in the collection plate. * You can't handle sitting through a whole hour of church, but you watched your favorite show's 6 hour marathon on tv Saturday night. * You want to skip the church fellowship because you and your friends are going to be hanging out that day. * You are hoping heaven will be great, but you are so sick of singing all those songs about God at church all the time. * You gripe to your friends for hours about all the hypocrites and problems in the church, and can't understand why no one wants to come to church with you. * You misquote, twist, and misapply scripture whenever it helps you, but have a fit if one of the kids drops a Bible on the floor. * You played a find-a-word game through worship, but get mad because the kids ran through the auditorium after worship. * You wear the same revealing outfit to church Sunday morning that you wore to the club last Saturday night dancing and drinking. * The last time you were at church 6 weeks ago you noticed something that needed repaired, and think someone should have fixed it by now. * You would have come to church last week, but you had company. * You would have been at church the week before that, but you really needed to spend some time with your family. * You would have worshiped the week before that, but you were too ashamed to come in your car that hadn't been washed, so you washed and waxed it Sunday morning and would have come that evening if the baseball game hadn't gone into extra innings. * You would have been here this time, but with all the things that have been going on your yard work has really gotten behind. * You will come next week if the weather is not nice enough for the outing you have been wanting to do since last fall, unless the weather is too bad to get out. Of course, if the weather isn't nice enough or too bad you really do have some shopping to do. * You told an acquaintance about being a Christian and invited them to church right before you cussed out one of your meddling neighbors who has been gossiping about you. Then you tell this new friend all about your nasty neighbor. * Every Sunday as your neighbor is leaving to go to church you come out in your pajamas to tell them they are going to the wrong church, and then go back in to watch tv and take a nap. * As you eat your third plate full of food you wonder why some people won't quit smoking, and decide to let them have it next time you see them. * You are offended by this list because it is judgmental and the way you live your life is none of anyone else's business. O n O n O n O n O n The objective of a terrorist is to create political change in the society he targets. - Tom Clancy O n O n O n O n O n A Washington Post/ABC poll conducted after 9/11 asked: "Would you be willing to give up some of the liberties we have in this country in order for the government to crack down on terrorism, or not?" Sadly, two out of every three Americans interviewed (66 percent) answered "Yes". I guess they don't remember what Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO ________________ SUPPORT THE CHURCH - LUKE 12:16-21 THE DANGER OF BECOMING A SPIRITUAL TERRORIST INTRODUCTION: A. DOMESTIC TERRORIST DEFINITION - 1. "Domestic terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics: *Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law; *Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and *Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S. 2. Spiritual terrorism would be activities with the following characteristics: *Involve acts dangerous to spiritual life that violate God's law; *Appear intended (I) to intimidate or coerce Christians; (ii) to influence the leadership of a congregation by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of the church by mass destruction of values and morals, character assassination, or corruption of youth; and *Occur within the church itself. B. WHAT IS A TERRORIST? (Isaiah 63:10) But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. (1 Samuel 18:29) And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually. (1 Kings 21:20) And Ahab said to Elijah, hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee; because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD. (Acts 26:9) I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 1. WHERE DO TERRORISTS COME FROM - (Genesis 3:15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Matthew 13:24-30) Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: {25} But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. {26} But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. {27} So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? {28} He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? {29} But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. {30} Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. (Matthew 13:37-43) He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; {38} The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; {39} The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. {40} As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. {41} The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; {42} And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. {43} Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. 2. WHAT DOES A TERRORIST DO? (Exodus 15:9) The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. (Proverbs 27:6) Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (Matthew 23:13) But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 3. WHAT KIND OF TERRORIST IS MOST DANGEROUS? C. HOW COULD WE BE TERRORISTS - (James 4:4) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. L.S. - YOU MIGHT BE A SPIRITUAL TERRORIST IF . . . I. YOU LOVE WORLDLY THINGS - (1 John 2:15) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. II. YOU LOVE RICHES - (Luke 18:22-24) Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. {23} And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. {24} And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! (1 Timothy 6:10) For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. III. YOU LOVE FAMILY MORE THAN CHRIST - (Matthew 10:37) He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. IV. YOU LOVE THE PRAISE OF MEN - (John 15:19) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. V. YOU LOVE YOUR LIFE OR WAY OF LIFE - (Matthew 10:39) He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. VI. YOU ARE UNWILLING TO GIVE UP WHAT YOU LIKE - (Matthew 10:38) And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. VII. YOU SPEAK OF THE CHURCH LIKE AN OUTSIDER LOOKING IN - (Matthew 12:30) He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. (1 John 2:18-19) Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. {19} They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. VIII. YOU LOOK BACK WITH LONGING ON YOUR OLD LIFE - (Luke 9:62) And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. IX. YOU DON'T WANT TO BE INVOLVED BEYOND ATTENDING WORSHIP - (James 2:14-17) What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? {15} If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, {16} And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? {17} Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. X. YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THE CHURCH - (Luke 12:16-21) And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: {17} And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? {18} And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. {19} And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. {20} But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? {21} So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. CONCLUSION: A. SUMMARY B. INVITATION Terrorism has once again shown it is prepared deliberately to stop at nothing in creating human victims. An end must be put to this. As never before, it is vital to unite forces of the entire world community against terror. - Vladimir Putin (Isn't it amazing the things that are said and who said them.)
