If I asked you to describe Christ and your relationship to Him, how would you do it? Some might say, ‘He is the Son of God’. Others might say ‘He is my savior’. A few might say, ‘He is God in the flesh’ or ‘He is my Lord’ or even ‘He is my friend’. You might say more than one of these things or possibly some that I have not mentioned here. Of course He should be all of these things and many more. Throughout the coming years let’s get to know Christ much more deeply by looking at all of the different roles that He plays in our lives.
We will begin with things beginning with A and continue through the alphabet to Z. The better we know Christ the better and more complete our relationship with Him will be. I have a list of over 100 names, titles, or descriptions of Jesus that affect our relationship with Him. All of them come from the scriptures. Some will be very familiar to you and some will not.
In 2 Peter 3:18, Peter encourages us to “...grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Growing in knowledge of our Lord will make us more like Him and therefore better Christians. So let’s grow in our knowledge of the One who left Heaven so that we could go to Heaven.
Let’s have the attitude that Paul had in Philippians 3:8, “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.” What is it worth to us to really know Jesus?
